The psoas minor muscle is one of three muscles which originate from the lumbar vertebral column. The other two muscles are the psoas major and the iliacus.

The psoas major and iliacus join together to insert on the femur and are often considered as a functional unit known collectively as the 'iliopsoas'.

Origin

  • Lateral surface of T12 and L1 vertebral bodies and intervening intervertebral disc

Insertion

  • Pectineal line of the pelvic brim

Action

  • Weak flexion of lumbar vertebral column

Innervation

  •  Anterior rami of L1

Blood Supply

  •  Lumbar branch of iliolumbar artery
