The subclavius muscle is a small triangular shaped muscle which lies interposed between the clavicle and the first rib.

Origin

  • 1st rib and Costal cartilage of 1st rib

Insertion

  • Subclavian groove of clavicle on the inferior surface of the middle third of the clavicle

Action

  • Depression of  clavicle
  • Elevation of first rib
  • Stabilisation of the sternoclavicular joint via the above motions

Innervation

  • Nerve to subclavius

Blood Supply

  • Pectoral branch of the thoracoacromial trunk
