The floor of the cranial cavity is formed by three cranial fossae:

  1. Anterior cranial fossa: houses the frontal lobes of the brain
  2. Middle cranial fossa: houses the temporal lobes of the brain
  3. Posterior cranial fossa: houses the brainstem and cerebellum
